Nyack Wedding // Anna + Aidan

Anna and Aidan knew that a bigger celebration in Ireland was on the horizon, so they gathered their closest people at a family home in Nyack for something intimate the year before - a microwedding that was small, personal, and entirely theirs. No grand ballroom, no sprawling guest list. Just the people who matter most, a cute family home, and a day that felt exactly like them. If you have been considering a microwedding in the Hudson Valley or Westchester area, this one is worth looking at for inspiration.

The Couple

These two are genuinely easy to photograph. Anna wore a gorgeous lace gown with a shorter veil that felt effortlessly bridal without being overdone, and Aidan was sharp in a blue suit. The combination of the two of them together, with beautiful colorful florals nearby, made for images that were warm, vibrant, and connected all day long.

Before the ceremony, we did their first look and portraits over at Nyack Beach State Park, and it was the right call. The light there, the trees, the Hudson River - it all comes together in a way that just works. Nyack Beach is one of those spots in the area that doesn't get talked about enough as a portrait location, and days like this one are a good reminder of why photographing there is such a good option. Watching them see each other for the first time quietly set the tone for the whole day. There was no wedding party, which meant portraits moved at a relaxed pace and we had real time to hang out, make great photos, and pull in family and friends without any of the usual rushing around. It felt less like a photoshoot and more like a really nice afternoon.

The Venue

Anna and Aidan held their ceremony in the front yard of a family home, and there is something genuinely different about a wedding that happens at a place already full of meaning for the people getting married. It was not a venue in the traditional sense -- it was just home. Guests gathered in the yard, the whole thing felt unhurried and personal, and the intimacy of the setting felt so precious and personal.

One of the things that makes microweddings so photographically compelling is that when the guest list is small, every face in the frame is someone who truly belongs there. There are no strangers, and no sense of distance. Everyone present was deeply connected to Anna and Aidan, and that shows up in the images in a way that is different than a larger event. The emotion is right there on the surface because there is nowhere for it to hide.

Private estate microweddings in Westchester have become more popular over the last few years, and it is easy to see why. The Hudson Valley offers so much in terms of natural beauty and meaningful family properties, and couples who choose to get married at home rather than at a traditional venue end up with a day that feels completely their own.

The Details

The florals were colorful and full - the kind of arrangements that photograph beautifully and make you want to stop and actually look at them. They brought so much warmth and life to the day and worked perfectly alongside Anna's lace gown and the pretty greenery of the property.

When couples choose details that actually reflect their taste rather than what they think a wedding is supposed to look like, the whole day comes together more naturally. The flowers, the gown, the suit, the setting - none of it felt like it was chosen from a checklist. It all felt considered and intentional.

The Reception

After the ceremony, everyone moved to the backyard for dinner under a tent beside the pool. It was relaxed and warm and easy - the kind of reception where people actually talk to each other, linger at the table, and are not rushing off to a packed dance floor. A tent next to a pool on a summer evening at a family home, with your favorite people around a dinner table, is a setup that is hard to argue with.

The reception space had that soft, intimate quality that comes from being gathered under a tent, and the pool nearby added a really nice visual backdrop. Backyard receptions tend to have a relaxed rhythm that translates well in photographs - there is less formality, more movement between guests, and a lot of genuinely candid moments that happen naturally because people feel comfortable in the space.

The whole evening had the feeling of everyone being exactly where they were supposed to be, which is honestly what you want out of a wedding day, regardless of how big or small it is.

Anna and Aidan, getting to document this chapter for you ahead of your celebration in Ireland was such a privilege. You put together something really special in that family backyard, and I still feel so fortunate to have been brought into this day alongside you.
