Pleasantly Devine Stables Wedding // Julia + Max

If you're looking for proof that a wedding celebration doesn't need a ceremony, a timeline, or a single staged moment to be absolutely beautiful - Julia and Max are your people. They hosted their reception at Pleasantly Devine Stables in Rock Tavern, New York, one full year after eloping in Central Park. What unfolded was one of the most heartfelt, laughter-filled, and unscripted days I've had the privilege of photographing. No ceremony. No rigid timeline. Just love, good food, great music, and the people who matter most.

The Couple

Julia and Max already knew exactly who they were as a couple before this day even began. They'd eloped in Central Park a year earlier, surrounded by just a handful of their closest people, and that quiet, intentional beginning says everything about them. This reception wasn't about performing for a crowd. It was about finally getting to celebrate with everyone they love, on their own terms.

Julia is a dancer, and honestly? It showed in every single frame. There's something about the way a dancer moves through the world - even when she's just laughing with her friends or stealing a quiet moment with her husband - that photographs beautifully. And on the dance floor? She was absolutely electric. Max clearly adores her, and watching the two of them together was one of those things that reminds you why you fell in love with photographing people in the first place.

They started the day in their original wedding attire - the same outfits they wore the day they said "I do" in the park - but as the afternoon turned into evening and the party really got going, Julia slipped into a sparkly tea-length gown that was made for dancing. The transformation felt so natural, so perfectly them.

The Venue

Pleasantly Devine Stables in Rock Tavern, New York is the kind of place that does most of the heavy lifting for you. The property has this wonderful, lived-in warmth to it - rustic without being overdone, scenic without being fussy. It was a genuinely perfect backdrop for a day that was all about feeling, not just the aesthetics.

And the weather cooperated beautifully. Early June in the Hudson Valley can go either way, but this particular Saturday delivered the kind of soft, golden light that photographers dream about. Warm enough to be outside all day, breezy enough to keep everyone comfortable - it genuinely felt like the universe was in on the plan.

The outdoor setting gave the whole day a flowing, unhurried quality. Guests wandered, gathered, dispersed, and came back together. There were no assigned moments, no herding people into lines for photos (literally! I just had a list of people that would be nice to photograph, but no true direction to follow). Just a beautiful property full of people enjoying each other's company.

The Details

Let's talk about the food trucks, because they deserve their own standing ovation. Pizza. Tacos. Donuts. Is there a more perfect trio? The whole setup felt so intentional in the best possible way. Instead of a formal seated dinner, guests grazed and mingled and came back for seconds (and thirds). It created this wonderful, casual energy that kept the day feeling like a big, warm gathering rather than a production.

What I loved most about this day was how little was staged. There was no shot list handed to me, no formal portraits blocking out a chunk of the afternoon. The details I captured - the glances, the hugs, the happy tears, the tacos in hand mid-laugh - were all just real. Genuinely, beautifully real.

The Reception

If the whole day had a heartbeat, it was the dance floor (and maybe also the donuts, to be honest). Once the music really got going, there was no pulling anyone away from it. Watching everyone move was genuinely joyful. The whole reception had this quality of everyone being exactly where they wanted to be. Conversations that went long. Impromptu group moments. Older relatives laughing at things you probably had to be there for. It was full and loud and warm and everything a celebration should be.

Julia and Max - thank you for trusting me to be there for this day. What you created at Pleasantly Devine Stables was something really special: a celebration that was entirely yours, entirely genuine, and entirely unforgettable. I hope these images bring you right back to that perfect June afternoon for years and years to come.
