Backyard Wedding in Westchester, NY // Stefania + Daniel

Oh, I feel these next set of blog posts are going to be hard to write, but so lovely and rewarding to look back on.

We all know 2020 was a year. But today I get to share a beautiful moment in that strange year that was important and lovely and a sweet break in everything else that was so hard to handle that year.

Enter Stefania and Daniel’s Westchester wedding. 💛

THE COUPLE

Stefania (a teacher) and Daniel (a therapist)  were engaged right before the pandemic began and were supposed to be married in a large wedding right after it began. So what did we do? Pivoted to a sweet little at-home ceremony in July 2020 instead. 🥹

Something that I love about Stefania and Daniel is their quiet confidence with each other. It’s almost like they become more lit up, more alive, more themselves when they are together. They are not less without each other, but simply more with each other, and I think that says a lot about them and what they hold dear.

THE VENUE

Stefania  and Daniel were married at a family friend’s house in Westchester, New York, surrounded by only their closest of family and friends. Everyone sat apart, spaced out from each other; some of us wore masks even on this warm July day.

When I think back on this day, I remember loving watching all of the guests enter the property. It was a long walk across a small field to get to their ceremony space, and watching them all walk in with excitement on their faces was a precious memory I’ll never forget. There was so much for 2020 weddings that is hard to put into words. Watching this kind of gathering form after restrictions had stopped it for months was a joy. Hard to explain. Easy to feel.

THE DETAILS

This Westchester wedding day’s details were minor and sweet - a  small tented reception with some roses on the tables. The details for the day that were much more meaningful than any material details could ever be: the way Stefania’s grandmother watched her walking down the aisle, the fact that more than 10 people were allowed to watch them get married, the risk that people were willing to take to gather during a pandemic just to see their loved ones, the love of the wedding party that didn’t match in outfits but matched in hearts.

I’ve told y’all I’m not the photographer to hire for wedding day details - it’s because I’m too busy noticing the details like those ones listed above, kept tucked in my heart until I’m able to write these little blogs for all you dear souls.

THE RECEPTION

Stefania and Daniel had a reception, but it was small and simple, and I wasn’t asked to photograph it (who wants photos of just people eating, anyway?). But just know it was cute and all they wanted.

When I think about Stefania and Daniel’s wedding day, all I remember is warmth - and not because it was July. 💛

Wedding date: July 26, 2020
