Love in the Time of COVID-19: Updated April 18, 2020
I sent the following email out to all of my current clients yesterday - March 16, 2020. Of course, all of this information is subject to change, but for now, this is where my sweet little business is at.
Lambs Hill Wedding // Elizabeth + Kael
Sometimes you just have to wait to publish blogs. Not because you are too busy. Not because you can’t find the words. But because some days are so special that you hesitate to want to share them. Almost like they are special little treasures that you want to remember in the way that only you remember them, without anyone else knowing.
That was this day…
Oh, But Isn't Life Lived in the In-Between?
Oh, but isn’t life lived in the in-between? In the moments that are somewhat out of focus; in the laughs of grandmothers; in the wedding day selfies, and in the quiet moments of getting ready…?
The Heart of 2019
2019 was beautiful, sacred, heart-filling, soul-nourishing, and just all around GOOD.
Here are my faves from the year, in no particular order.
Some aren’t perfect, and I love them for that.
Some only got 40 likes on Instagram - and I love them even more…
September Wedding at Hollow Brook Golf Club in Cortlandt, NY // Kerri + Brian
A minor threat of rain. A few blue details. A sunlit church. Many tears…
Sam + Jeff // A Vibrant September Wedding at Diamond Mills in Saugerties, NY
I wish I could collect all of my wedding day memories in jars or books, and take them off the shelves when I want to breathe in their essence again.
Pictures are meaningful because this is what they capture. No, you can’t smell them, but you can feel their essence. Thank God for that…
Fall Wedding at West Hills Country Club in Middletown, NY // Kaila + Justin
I’m sure you’ve noticed, but I am blessed to photograph a good handful of weddings at West Hills Country Club in Middletown, NY every year. Although the venue is the same, each couple and their family and friends are so different, and I am honestly always in awe at how unique and varied the human experience can be…
Mount Gulian Wedding // Haylee + Brian
Confession:
Sometimes I choose the photos for blog posts, but then let myself mull over the right words to put down to describe these beautiful days that I have the honor of being a part of. I chose the photos in this blog post in April. It’s now June, and here I am, finally putting figurative pen to paper to describe Haylee + Brian’s wedding day. Sometimes, it’s just so dang hard…
Need Ideas For How To Ask Your Friends To Be In Your Wedding? Look No Further!
As a wedding photographer, I’m always keeping my eyes peeled for resources for my clientfriends - whether they’re timeline hacks, vendor recommendations, or ideas for asking friends to be a part of a wedding party (like the gift box featured in this post!), I’m all over it.
Coming across these customizable gift boxes to ask your people to be a part of your big day was so wonderful. And, I have to say, I am super happy and excited to review this for you…
Claudia + Dylan // A Sunset Winter Wedding at Whitby Castle in Rye, NY
One day, when Claudia + Dylan are old and gray, they'll look back at their wedding day and remember how absolutely adorable and sweet and perfect it was. Heck, they do that now, and it hasn't even been a full year since they got married…
Abbi + Ray // A Warm Winery Wedding at Magnanini Winery's Two Hearts Vineyard in Wallkill, NY
I sing Abbi's praises everywhere I go - really, I do. I can't help it. Abbi is one of the kindest, dearest, sweetest, most genuine, gorgeous-inside-and-out people I know. When my business was first expanding, she acted as my assistant on wedding days…
Wedding Day Timeline Guidelines
The day-of timeline can sometimes be one of the more daunting aspects of planning a wedding day. Most standard wedding photography contracts cover 8 hours, and it can sometimes seem disingenuous to seemingly try to cram months and months of planning into 8 hours of photos. Trust me: it can be done - and is done well, and regularly. :)
Alyson's Orchard Wedding Day for Erin + Ben // A Rustic Wedding in Walpole, NH
When I lived in Massachusetts, Erin was one of my very favorite coworkers. Her love of The Office, cats, and sweet things solidified our friendship early. She was someone I could always take a trip upstairs to visit, and count on her kind, funny, and welcoming demeanor...
Brooke + Paul // An Historic Estate Wedding at Locust Grove in Poughkeepsie, NY
So, let me just tell you something: Brooke is one of the funniest, most charismatic, and all sorts of hilarious people you could ever hope to meet. There's something about her funny way that is so direct and endearing, you can't help but fall in love with her. I know that's how she first charmed Paul... ;)
Alexa + Joe // A Disney Inspired Wedding in Moonachie, NJ
Last year, I made a commitment to give away one free wedding package each year to a couple who had lost a parent. My mom passed away before I was married, and not having her on my wedding day with me was heartbreaking. There is so much community in loss. It's an odd community. A bittersweet one. But a community, nonetheless...
30
Dear 20-year-old me,
Hey, it's me. Well, you. Well, us together. We are the same.
30 years ago today a 30-year-old woman gave birth to a round baby girl that the nurses said looked like the Gerber baby, and others questioned whether or not you were named after Erika Kane from Days of Our Lives (because that was cool in the '80s). Actually, you were named after your mother's brother, Eric. Your mom was psyched that day; you were a miracle baby, and she had had dreams of you long before you were even born.
Jaime // A Lifegiving Session at Stonykill Farm in Beacon, NY
I seem to be surrounded by pregnant mamas lately. I won't lie - I'm not mad about it. :) I think pregnancy is one of the most beautiful, remarkable, and miraculous things that a woman can go through. Jaime's pregnancy is even more special because she's my sister-in-love, so her cute little belly is holding my new nephew. T minus 2 weeks, y'all...
The Top Eight Things I Learned in Business in 2016
If you follow my Instagram, you were able to count down my top 31 favorite moments of 2016. Some had to do with my business, some had to do with my personal life - almost all of them had to do with connection.
Connection is so much. In life. And in business. I'm a firm believer that genuine connection with others should be a priority in business. 2016 has taught me this well...
Catherine + Thomas // A Mohonk Mountain House Wedding in New Paltz, NY
I am forever inspired by the visions and dreams that my couples have for their weddings. Even the simplest of weddings have the most significant of details and meaning...
Chelsea + Ernie // A DIY-Infused Wedding in New Windsor, NY
Chelsea and Ernie are an important part of my little tribe. Their relationship has been one of my favorites to come alongside. Chelsea is the soft to Ernie's loud, the sweetness to his boisterousness. They are genuine through and through, and are some of the most kind-hearted people I have ever met...
