While I wasn’t behind the camera for this one, our Sweet Alice Studios team member Amanda had the pleasure of photographing Gaelyn and Riley’s wedding at the Shaker Heritage Barn in Albany. From everything she shared, it was a day full of warmth, personality, and the kind of moments that make you smile without even realizing it.
These two planned a celebration that felt like them in every detail. Relaxed, genuine, and a little bit playful. From their first look at a nearby Airbnb to their nontraditional touches and the cozy feel of their venue, it felt less like an event and more like a gathering of people who really know and love each other.
THE COUPLE
Gaelyn and Riley met in college, and it’s easy to tell they’ve been by each other’s side for a while. They have that calm, easy connection where everything just flows. The kind that feels more like hanging out with your best friend than anything else.
They recently bought a house together and have two adorable dogs. Their first look at a quiet Airbnb nearby was a highlight of the day. A mix of happy nerves, genuine emotion, and so much joy. It set the tone for everything that followed.
THE VENUE
Shaker Heritage Barn in Albany has a rustic, lived-in charm with weathered wood, wide-open spaces, and just enough quiet to feel like you’re getting away from it all.
The morning started out gray and drizzly, but the sun broke through and gave us the most beautiful afternoon light. That shift in the weather matched the vibe of the whole day. Cozy, relaxed, and full of good energy.
THE DETAILS
Everything about the details felt personal. From the start, it was clear Gaelyn and Riley were focused on creating a day that reflected them, not just what’s “supposed” to happen at a wedding.
Gaelyn wore a gorgeous lace gown that moved so beautifully in the breeze, especially during portraits. They wore colorful Nikes, which we loved, and Riley’s cufflinks were tiny cameras - a subtle nod to his photography hobby. Instead of a formal cake, they went with donuts, which was both fun and very on-brand.
Even their dogs made an appearance in the little things. Some of the décor and signage gave a quiet wink to their furry family members. The bud vases with wildflowers on each table gave the whole reception a soft, shabby chic feel without being overdone. It all just worked.
THE RECEPTION
By the time everyone gathered inside the barn, the place felt warm and welcoming. String lights overhead, happy chatter all around, and a relaxed energy that encouraged people to kick back and enjoy.
Gaelyn and Riley danced like themselves. Easy, playful, and fully in the moment. You could tell they were exactly where they wanted to be. The whole night had this feeling of home. Not in a literal sense, but in the way people made each other feel. Comfortable. Celebrated. Close.
It’s always a joy to see a wedding that reflects the couple so clearly.
Congrats again to Gaelyn and Riley. We’re so glad we could be part of such a fun, thoughtful day.
